My professor talked about the Italian lifestyle in class today. Only to later conclude that capitalism and competition allow for social mobility. His main point was that Italy is a great place to visit, but for people who actually live there, the focus on the important things in life (ie. not $$$) makes it near impossible to change socio-economic status.  Still, it was nice to dream about la dolce vita for a little while.
