so I’ve been thinking…

with this whole Wall Street mess, maybe it’s really time to go back to basics.  instead of trying to play games with the market and come up with get-rich-quick schemes, maybe it’s time to focus on making an actual product, on actually creating something.

I really don’t know what it’s like to work in the securities industry, and it’s never good when an industry begins to crumble and people are out of work, but on a broader scale, I wonder whether the solution might be to focus on innovation.  maybe now is the perfect opportunity to shake things up by revisiting a simple concept: creating a useful product provides a benefit to people.  since when did we start thinking that shuffling paper is more valuable than creating an actual product?

here’s what my boy thomas friedman has to say about innovation (albeit in the context of this election):  ” Unless we make America the country most able to innovate, compete and win in the age of globalization, our leverage in the world will continue to slowly erode.”  And I say, we’ve got great minds, people, so let’s innovate.  in every industry and every field.  doctors, lawyers, writers, teachers, actors, architects, musicians, academics, engineers.  let’s get crackin’.
